About Us

According to supplementary Article 30 of Law No. 2809 dated 28.03.1983, with the Decree of the Council of Ministers enacted with its publication in the Official Gazette No. 27505 of 26.02.2010, the Faculty of Engineering was established within the Artvin Çoruh University. In the decision of the Higher Education Implementation Council of 09.06.2010 based on substitute Article 7-d/2 of Law No. 2880 in place of Law No. 2547, it was found suitable to open the Department of Environmental Engineering within the Faculty of Engineering of Artvin Çoruh University. With notification no. 2906 dated 16.06.2010 of the Higher Education Implementation Council, our department officially opened.

 

Environmental engineering is a branch of engineering related to the use of natural resources and in obtaining environmental conditions that are suitable to human health. Unlike other branches of engineering, it is an engineering branch that is active not in the consumption of natural resources but in returning what is owned by nature. Environmental engineering on a local and global scale, applies basic scientific concepts to protect man from the negative impact of the environment and vice versa and to improve environmental conditions for human health and welfare.

 

The leading areas of activity of environmental engineers are water and waste water treatment, air pollution control, solid waste disposal, soil pollution, disposal of water, air and soil wastes by researching technological solutions and identifying the measures to be applied.  

 

The Department of Environmental Engineering at Artvin Çoruh University, together in collaboration with the public sector and industry, is responsible in raising graduates perceiving environmental issues and generating economic and effective solutions in order to contribute to sustainable development by realizing scientific research and the environment for education to solve issues on a local and global scale.

 

The teaching staff of the Department of Environmental Engineering at Artvin Çoruh University consists of  four assistant professors and two research assistants.

 

The Department of Environmental Engineering has two divisions: Environmental Sciences and Environmental Technology. Activities on the opening of laboratories for both divisions are ongoing.
